Starting 2015 with a website update

2014 has been a mixed bag at best. High points for me included 5ive Foot Way’s second exhibition, shooting the DBS Marina Regatta, being a part of Photovoice SG, and finding a day job I enjoy. The low points? Surviving the painkillers my back required just to be functional for a large chunk of the year that cost me many opportunities, and personal life suffered somewhat due to unforeseen circumstances. I’m not one for regrets, but I do think about the what-ifs a bit more than I’d like.

I managed to update some parts of the portfolio over the past couple of days, despite a niggly and annoying cold. It’s pretty amazing what we can find when going through the archives and making sure things are backed up and working smoothly.

Found this one languishing in the archives. Dug out the slide and looked at it through a loupe. And wondered why I ignored it. I like it well enough to put it up now. It could be the intoxicating effects of the beautiful Alix and Astia talking, but that’s as good a reason as any.

Updating the site meant also gave me a good overview of what kind of work I need to do more of: portraits. Haven’t done a session in ages. Gonna make that a priority for the first couple months of the year, along with finishing up Nisshi Vol. V and starting work on Vol. VI, and planning 5ive Foot Way’s next exhibition.

Stay tuned, and I wish all of you good hunting and great health for the year ahead.

Best Photography-related Youtube Video for 2014*

*In my not-so-humble opinion, and yes, it’s a commercial.

Leica’s video commemorating their 100 year history was beautifully shot, sensitively narrated by John Hurt, and worth your while watching. Bonus points if you can identify at least some of the photos they recreated, but even if you can’t, it does not hurt the sheer visual joy it provides.

So many things could have fallen flat, but it came together wonderfully.
